Airport, station and local collection

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is close to the city, but peer-to-peer camper vans are spread across Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson. The airport Rental Car Center is for participating car-rental companies; do not go there unless the host explicitly names it as the handoff point.

1Before flying, obtain the complete pickup address, host phone number, handover window and delivery fee in writing.
2Use the airport’s authorised Uber/Lyft pickup area or the transport method agreed with the host. Do not assume curbside camper-van delivery is included.
3Leave at least 60–90 minutes for inspection and instruction. Operate the bed, roof, propane shutoff, water, toilet, electrical system and air-conditioning power source yourself.
4Photograph every side, glass, tires, roofline where safely visible, odometer, fuel and interior before loading luggage.
5Shop after collection so food and water match the van’s storage and payload. Choose a supermarket on the side of town that matches the route rather than driving the van along the Strip.
6For a late flight, book a legal Las Vegas/Henderson RV site and leave for the parks at dawn. Do not learn a rental vehicle on I-15 after dark.

Where to spend the first night

The correct first night depends on arrival time and direction. Reserve it before the flight; free roadside sleeping is not a reliable arrival plan around the Las Vegas Valley.

Las Vegas or Henderson full-service RV park

Best for: Late arrivals, families and first-time RV users

The least romantic but most resilient choice. A powered site lets you test shore power, air conditioning, water and waste while stores and host support are nearby. Confirm site length and after-hours arrival directly.

Red Rock Canyon Campground

Best for: Cool-season arrivals heading toward Death Valley or California

Roughly 20 miles west of the Strip. Reservations are recommended in the busy March and October periods. RV sites have no utilities, and filling an RV tank from campground potable-water points is not permitted. The Scenic Drive requires a separate timed-entry reservation from October 1 through May 31 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Boulder Beach / Lake Mead area

Best for: Hoover Dam, Arizona or a relaxed first morning near water

About 35–45 minutes from the airport area. NPS-managed campgrounds currently require advance reservations and do not have hookups. In 2026, Boulder Beach loops A and B are closed May 26–August 31, so verify the live campground listing rather than relying on an old itinerary.

Driving and parking complications

Las Vegas is easy to leave via the interstate, but the Strip is a poor place to learn a tall rental. Record the full height—including roof fan, solar panels, racks and air conditioner—beside the steering wheel.

Hotel garages and urban parking can have low clearances or prohibit oversized vehicles. Use surface parking that explicitly accepts the van.
Nevada uses Pacific Time, Utah uses Mountain Time, and most of Arizona does not observe daylight saving time. Verify local arrival times instead of trusting the dashboard clock.
Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive requires timed entry October 1–May 31 for entry from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; a campground booking is not the Scenic Drive reservation.
From June 7, 2026, vehicles over Zion’s stated length, width, height or weight limits cannot use the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance.
Summer air conditioning normally requires shore power, a compatible generator or an unusually large electrical system. Ask exactly what runs while parked and for how long.
Flash floods can close desert roads and make washes deadly. Never drive through flowing water or around a closure.
