Campervan hire is the easiest way to explore the UK on your own schedule — but the nightly rate isn't the whole story. Here's what a trip really costs in 2026, and how to keep it down.
The short answer
Most UK campervans hire for £70–£160 a night. Where you land depends on:
- Season — July and August are dearest; May, June and September are far better value.
- Van size and age — a classic two-berth is cheaper than a new six-berth motorhome.
- Trip length — weekly hires almost always cut the per-night rate.
- Where you hire — big-city hubs have more choice and keener prices.
What's included — and what isn't
The nightly rate usually covers the van, insurance, bedding and basic kitchen kit. Watch for a mileage cap, a cleaning/prep fee, and a refundable security deposit. On top, budget for fuel, campsite pitches (£15–£40 a night), and ferries if you're heading to the islands.
The best-value places to hire
Big hubs have the most vans and the keenest prices. Edinburgh and Inverness are ideal for Scotland and the North Coast 500; Bristol for Cornwall and the South West; and Manchester for the Lake District.
How to keep it cheap
- Travel in the shoulder season (May, June, September).
- Hire for a full week to unlock the lower nightly rate.
- Book early for summer — the best-value vans go first.
- Use campsite networks and aires rather than pricier holiday parks.
